The auxiliary electric motor drives all the pumps needed in an automobile. Pumps of various types are needed for power steering, brakes and air conditioning. When a PHEV is stationary it is often unacceptable to have no air conditioning or brakes and steering that don’t feel quite right. It runs from the auxiliary battery (see below) and over time will be removed from the design as new direct electric drive pumps and compressors meet our SCWARE factors.
