Safe Electric Cars
Genovation is building cars that meet federal safety standards. We are exploring safety issues in electric cars that have not made it into law yet and hope to be a major contributor to the industry in this area. Our cars will be both environmentally friendly and safe; there will be no compromise.
Our first product will be a modified Ford Focus, a high volume popular car that has received four star crash ratings for driver's side and passenger's side frontal and side impacts and a four star rollover resistance rating (2002-04 model years).
Existing safety features of the G1 include:
- Antilock, dual circuit braking system.
- Run flat tires.
- Front, rear and center lap/shoulder belts for 5 passengers.
- Child seat anchors.
- Front seat belt pretensioners.
- Adjustable upper anchor front belts.
- Front and rear head restraints.
- Driver and passenger front airbags and seat mounted side airbags.
- SecuriLock ignition, a system requiring an intelligent key before the car can be activated.
Safety features to be added by Genovation:
- A system of interlocks that prevent the car from being powered up unintentionally.
- Batteries with a proven safety record and the ability to be economically recycled.
- Battery tray mounted outside and below the passenger compartment.
- Protects passengers from any fluid or gas leaks.
- Increases cars stability through low center of gravity.
- Redundant safety system of fuses with both manual and automatic breaker switches.
- A cut-off switch under the brake pedal such that when pressed, power is removed from the traction motor.
- A charger interlock safety system that prevents the car from being started while plugged in.
- In case of airbag deployment the battery pack is automatically separated into segments; each of which is 72V or less. This reduces the risk to passengers and public safety services.
- The 144V traction batteries are isolated from the 12V auxiliary battery when the car is off. This provides a benefit should the driver accidentally leave on the headlights and drain the auxiliary battery. When the car is powered on ready to move, the traction battery will automatically recharge the auxiliary battery.
- Electric powered cars are silent. They can be energized and ready to move without the usual noise of a gasoline engine idling. Owners of conventional cars pick up these audible signals unconsciously and know the car is potentially dangerous. Therefore, we have introduced a safety management system to warn the driver when creating dangerous situations such as leaving the drivers seat or opening the hood when the car is ready to move.
Genovation will introduce a custom designed car, the Genovation G2 that will include all the safety features of the G1 plus the following:
- Xenon headlights
- Auto dimming rearview mirror.
- Tire pressure sensors.
- Built in child seat.
Genovation believes that an electric traction system can provide the opportunity to build a safer vehicle and intends to prove that.
