Maintenance
An electric vehicle is a far simpler machine than a modern gasoline automobile. The car used to be a simple machine until all the computerized emissions systems were added together with multiple computers to “manage” every moving part. It has come to the point where the local garage mechanic no longer repairs anything, he or she just replaces a part and sends you on your way with a substantial bill. It is no longer possible to just replace a set of distributor points that cost $5.00.
An electric vehicle has very few parts, the main one being the electric motor. It doesn’t have valves, timing belts, fuel injectors, gaskets, oxygen sensors, catalytic converters and many other expensive to replace (not repair) items. It is simple and straightforward.
With a Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) there is a small engine that needs some maintenance care. However, in a Genovation car, this will be a small and inexpensive diesel or gas engine designed to run most efficiently within a narrow RPM range. All maintenance requirements of these gensets will be based on run-time. Therefore, the car is equipped with a counter that records the run hours of the genset and then notifies the owner when it is time for a simple maintenance routine.
